The journey of Stargazer Farm and Stargazer Fellowship is one of returning to Nature from a life previously lived with technology and convenience. Our farm is organic, and the only thing sprayed on our farm is water. Thus, we will need pollinators while deterring pests. What we need for our crops is a Good Companion.

Borage officinalis is a gorgeous, blue star flowering herb with a large tolerable soil pH index (5.5 - 8.0). This breadth of index means she can companion with strawberries (ideal pH5.5) all the way to asparagus (ideal pH 7.5). Most vegetables like a soil pH in the 6.0-7.0 range, making Borage a very flexible, Good Companion for most anything we grow. Bees love Borage, making her superb pollinator and a staple for Apiaries. Her scent repels hornworms from tomato plants.

Fresh Borage flowers light up any salad, and taste like a cucumber. Enclosed photo is Borage from my garden.

Medicinally, the oil from Borage seeds contains gamma-linolenic acid. GLA is anti-inflammatory. It is promoted for treating rheumatoid arthritis, mainly. Borage oil is to be avoided during pregnancy and in liver disease states.
